Jacob Kampen has been selected as the first UW-Eau Claire College of Business Emerging Leader. As a junior, Kampen was chosen for his leadership abilities and potential for success. Kampen is a finance major with an information systems minor from De Pere, WI.
Kampen was selected by the business faculty and staff for his leadership abilities and potential for success.
“Jacob really believes in service and sharing his talents,” according to Tom Mihajlov, executive-in-residence in the Department of Accounting and Finance. “He leads by example: he works hard at this studies, achieves outstanding academic results, and is very active in a number of campus activities and organizations—many in leadership roles. I have also noticed how he inspires his peers. These are truly marks of a leader,” said Mihajlov.
Kampen has demonstrated leadership traits in many campus organizations. He is the Information Technology Commission director for the UW-EC Student Senate, and vice-chairman and treasurer for College Republicans. He is also an active member in The Navigators and The Conservative Union. Kampen’s leadership roles have helped him prepare for a career in the finance industry. From his leadership roles he has been able to develop organizational skills and has learned how to work toward common goals with a group.
Another part of Kampen's success came from obtaining an internship at Ecolab this summer as a financial analyst. Kampen says, “Internships are extremely important—everyone should try to do one before [he or she] graduates. I don’t know of a better item for a resume.”
So far, Kampen’s biggest success has been receiving the Ronald Reagan College Leaders scholarship for two years in a row. This is the most significant national award for conservative activism in a university setting.
