Vaughan named UW-Eau Claire College of Business associate dean

Dr. Timothy VaughanDr. Timothy Vaughan, professor of management and interim associate dean of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire College of Business, has been named associate dean of the business college. He replaces Dr. Robert Sutton who retired from the university in November 2012.

Dean Diane Hoadley will chair search and screen committee for a new dean for the UW-Eau Claire College of Arts and Sciences.

Bonnie Krahn, College of Business graphic artist, has been elected to the university's Academic Staff Personnel Committee.


Our condolences to Dr. Rhetta Standifer, Department of Management and Marketing, whose father, Chester Long, age 82, passed away, Saturday, February 23, 2013 in Mt. Juliet, TN.

Our condolences to Linda Pophal, Department of Management and Marketing, whose mother, Delores B. Richards, 86, passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2013 in Chippewa Falls, WI.


Beta Gamma Sigma seeks new members

Beta Gamma SigmaThe University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) has invited eligible College of Business students to apply for membership in the international business honor society. BGS membership is the highest honor bestowed upon business students at institutions accredited by AACSB International.

Students are invited to join BGS by their business school faculty. To be eligible for invitation, undergraduate and graduate students must be in the upper 10 percent of the junior or senior class, or upper 20 percent of their MBA class.

Applications and a check for $70 must be returned by March 8, 2013 to Pam Blanchette, Schneider 400C, Department of Management & Marketing.

UW-Eau Claire AMA case team advances to International Collegiate Case Competition finals

AMA case team

Once again the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire American Marketing Association (AMA) case team will advance to the finals of the AMA International Collegiate Case Competition. See sidebar. The 2012-2013 case competition will be held in conjunction with the 35th Annual AMA International Collegiate Conference in New Orleans, LA, March 21-23.

Veterans Appreciation Dinner set for March 6

Veterans DinnerMembers of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Veterans Club and ROTC will host a BBQ dinner and raffle on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at American Legion Hall Post 53, 634 Water Street, Eau Claire, WI. Serving will start at 6 pm and last until 8 pm. All proceeds from the event will benefit the UW-Eau Claire Veterans Club and UW-Eau Claire ROTC.

Students will have access to new degree audit starting March 4

As of March 4th, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students will have access to the new degree audit. Although the old degree audit is still an option, it will no longer be available after Spring Semester 2013.

Business Communication program celebrated National Grammar Day

Celebrate National Grammar DayThe UW-Eau Claire Business Communication program held a reception celebrating National Grammar Day and introducing their new writing and presentations studio, on Monday, March 4 from 4–6 pm in the Business Writing & Presentations Studio located in Schneider 216 (Presentations Studio) and Schneider 322 (Writing Studio). The event was open to the university community.

Julie LillaJulie Lilla, a senior accounting major from Trempealeau, WI, competed in the finals of the women’s USA Curling National Championship, February 9-16 in Green Bay, WI. Lilla competed on Team George, which was defeated by Team Brown in an extra end. The final score was 7-6. Team Brown now becomes Team USA for the 2013 World Women's Championship, March 16-24 in Riga, Latvia. In addition, the win puts the Brown team into the 2014 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Curling, Nov. 10-17, in Fargo, ND.

Lilla and Team George still have an opportunity to compete in the US Olympic Team Trials.

“Three spots are already claimed and there's one left,” said Lilla. “A selection committee will be deciding. We will know by May 1st if we get the last Olympic Trail spot for the women's side.”

COB students competed at state forensics tournament


Two UW-Eau Claire College of Business students competed at the Wisconsin State Forensics Tournament, held Feb. 15-16 at UW-Stout:

Abby Rand, a senior HCAD student from Melrose, WI, placed second in persuasion which qualified her to represent the state of Wisconsin at the Interstate Oratory Contest in Shreveport, La., in April. Rand also placed second in informative speaking, second in communication analysis and second in persuasion.

Stephen Fong, a junior entrepreneur management and marketing double major from Shorewood finished in the top five in individual sweepstakes. Fong placed fifth. He also placed first in informative speaking, second in after-dinner speaking and third in communication analysis.

Scholarship recipients are nominated by the BCOM faculty. Recipients will be selected by April 1.
