UW-Eau Claire APICS chapter competes at case competition
The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire student chapter of APICS competed at the 2012 Great Lakes District Student Case Competition held February 24-25, 2012 in Downers Grove, IL.
The UW-Eau Claire team finished 11th out of 33 teams, winning $452 for the Eau Claire student chapter. First place in the competition went to Bowling Green University, followed by UW-Madison (2nd) and Purdue University Krannert School of Management (3rd).

UW-Eau Claire DECA students to compete at state career development conference
Fifteen University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire College of Business students will attend the 2012 Collegiate DECA Wisconsin State Career Development Conference, March 1-4 in Madison, WI. They will compete for the right to attend the 2012 International Career Development Conference, April 21-24, 2012 in Salt Lake City, UT.
Collegiate DECA competitions are clustered around six business areas: 1) business management and administration, 2) communications and technology, 3) entrepreneurship, 4) finance and accounting, 5) hospitality and tourism, and 6) marketing and sales. UW-Eau Claire College of Business students will compete in eight different events.
Fourteen members of the UW-Eau Claire chapter of Pi Sigma Epsilon (PSE), the national fraternity for men and women interested in sales, marketing and management, will be attending the 2012 PSE National Convention, March 13-17 in Indianapolis, IN. Approximately 500 PSE student and professional members from around the country will attend the five day event that includes presentations and workshops, competitions and a career fair.

Annual IT Conference to be Held March 1-2, 2012
Collaborating to Prepare Graduates for Rapid IT Change, is the theme of the 28th Annual Information Technology Conference for Wisconsin Technical College Instructors held March 1-2, 2012 at the Holiday Inn-Campus in Eau Claire, Wis. The conference is hosted by the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire Department of Information Systems and the Wisconsin Technical College System. Attending the event are students, faculty, and staff from Wisconsin technical colleges and area universities as well as professionals from IT companies.

University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students, faculty, and staff can file their own 2011 federal and state taxes on-campus this year thanks to a new online service offered by the UW-Eau Claire Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA). UW-Eau Claire VITA is a program of the UW-Eau Claire Department of Accounting and Finance.

REMINDER: Health care administration program accepting applications for admission
The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Health Care Administration Program is accepting applications for admission to the program. Prospective or Pre-HCAD students seeking more information about the HCAD program and the required application for admission process should plan to attend. The spring 2012 admissions process is the final opportunity to gain admission to the 2013 Practicum cohort.

Accounting and finance faculty win IMA case competition
Two University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Department of Accounting and Finance faculty members have won the 2012 Carl Menconi Ethics Case Competition sponsored by the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA).
Dr. William F. Miller, CPA, Ed.D., assistant professor and Arthur Andersen Professor of Accounting, and Thomas Mihajlov, lecturer, will be recognized at IMA's 93rd Annual Conference & Exposition, June 23-27, 2012, in Las Vegas, NV.
Rebecca Brunz, a junior from Madison Lake, MN and Liza Holle, a senior from Pewaukee, WI, attended the 2011 National ACHCA Winter Marketplace. The event was held December 9-11 in Las Vegas, NV. Brunz participated in an initiative that examined the use of electronic and social media for professional associations. Holle, a student research assistant for ACHCA’s National Mentoring Program and the student leader for UW-Eau Claire’s HCAD Peer Mentoring Program, was a member of a panel discussion that explored opportunities and obstacles of the new ACHCA Mentoring Program. The panel was led by Dr. Doug Olson, UW-Eau Claire associate professor of health care administration.
ACHCA poster session
HCAD students working on research projects will have the opportunity to present their research at the 3rd Annual Student Applied Research Poster Session to be held at the 2012 ACHCA Convocation, May 4-8, in Nashville, TN. UW-Eau Claire HCAD student Emily Rickman, who is also a ACHCA Academy Fellow, is helping coordinate the ACHCA poster session.

Jundt Leads Blugolds on NCHA Men's Hockey All-Academic Team
University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey player Tyler Jundt, a senior finance major from Williston, ND, was named the 2012 Norther Collegiate Hockey Association's (NCHA) Co-Scholar-Athlete, leading eight Blugolds on this year's All-Academic team.
