"Breaking the Ice" Mock Interviews

Thursday, April 19
11:00 am - 3:00 pm
Davies - Council Fire Room

The Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce is partnering with UW-Eau Claire Career Services to offer mock interviews. This event is a great opportunity for students to polish their interviewing skills while networking with Chippewa Valley professionals.

Each interview session will last approximately 30 minutes. Students will receive immediate feedback following the interview.

Space will be limited so plan to register early. Registration for the event will be available on the UW-Eau Claire Career Services website. (Look for an email coming your way when the registration site is launched.) Information will also be available on the College of Business website.

Tips for Interviewing

  • Research the company, in depth, before your interview.

  • Practice answering interview questions. Review your resume so you can give specific examples.

  • Prepare a list of questions to ask. Avoid obvious questions you can find on your own.

  • Dress professionally. It's better to be over dressed then under dressed - think conservative attire!

  • Be properly groomed. You only get one chance to make a first impression.

  • Bring extra copies of your resume on high grade paper and keep them in a portfolio.

  • Greet your interviewer with a firm handshake.

  • Maintain eye contact throughout your interview.

  • At the end of the interview, ask for a business card so you can follow up.

  • Send a thank you note within 24 hours of your interview.

Tips for Resumes

• Create a resume for each position you apply for. Don't use a generic resume.

• When writing your resume, use words that match the position description.

• Include relevant volunteer work and class projects.

• Be consistent in style and format.

• Use the present tense for current positions and the past tense for past positions.

• Review your resume before sending to employers.

• Always include a cover letter with your resume.

• Never falsify your experiences. The truth will come out in an interview or once you are hired.

• Update your resume often to keep track of new experiences.

Excellence. Our Measure, Our Motto, Our Goal.
