IS Curriculum Development & Marketing Student Travel Funded by Blugold Commitment

Blugold Commitment Differential Tuition funds support IS curriculum development and marketing student travel

Two University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire College of Business proposals will receive Blugold Commitment Differential Tuition (BCDT) funding, according to Stephanie Jamelske, UW-Eau Claire Academic Affairs budget officer. Both proposals will receive partial funding for one year. Awards are effective July 1, 2012.

College of Business proposals receiving funding are as follows:

"High Impact State of the Art: Enterprise Resource Planning in the Business Curriculum," a proposal written by Dr. Thomas Hilton and the IS faculty, has been awarded $23,000 to help support the department's efforts to integrate enterprise resource planning into the IS curriculum using SAP. SAP, an enterprise resource planning system, is the global market leader and a favorite of many UW-Eau Claire business recruiters. BCDT funds were awarded to support a one-year membership in the SAP University Alliances program, a university community of SAP users, which will give the UW-Eau Claire IS department access to needed hardware, software, and instructional materials. Funds also will support UW-Eau Claire IS faculty travel to SAP training workshops and the hiring of a consultant to help UW-Eau Claire IS faculty incorporate a hands-on, team-based collaborative experience with SAP products into IS 411, the department's object-oriented system course. The proposal was written by Hilton, and IS faculty and staff members Donald Gaber, Dr. Matt Germonprez, Dr. Anthony Keys, Dr. Bruce Lo, Dr. Jean Pratt and Dr. Ruidong Zhang.

"Enhancing Professional Development Opportunities for Marketing Students," a proposal written by Dr. Robert Erffmeyer and Dr. Scott Swanson, Department of Management and Marketing, has been awarded $30,000 to help fund UW-Eau Claire marketing student travel to sales and case competitions held at universities and regional and national conferences around the country. These high impact experiences help students gain self-confidence, develop communication skills, and apply and test what they have learned in the classroom. Student participation in these competitions also enhances the reputation of the universities these students represent.

"We are very pleased these proposals received funding," said College of Business Dean Diane Hoadley. "Both proposals prepare our students for success by supporting opportunities that develop student skills and knowledge in areas that are important to employers."

The Blugold Commitment is a student-funded initiative that allows the university to maintain and enhance the high-impact learning experiences students say they value. Sixty-seven proposals requesting over $3.8 million in funding were received by the Office of the Provost for the 2012-13 academic year. For more information about the Blugold Commitment, visit
