Tom Dock, UW-Eau Claire Business Dean to Retire

V. Thomas Dock, dean of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire College of Business, has announced he will retire from the university effective July 1, 2010.  Dock, who has been dean of the business school since 1992, also served the university as acting vice chancellor for administration, finance, and facilities during the 2008-09 academic year. His future plans include traveling, and managing a family business in Duluth, MN.

"We have accomplished much the past 18 years and I leave the university knowing the business college is a recognized leader in many distinctive and value added programs and initiatives," said Dock. "It has been a real team effort and I am grateful for the guidance and support I have received from our students, my faculty and staff, and the university and business communities," he continued. "It has been a pleasure serving as the dean."

Never content with the status quo, Dock encouraged his faculty and staff to continually examine and improve the college's curriculum, delivery systems, and policies and procedures, which resulted in the college leading the way on many fronts. During his tenure as dean, the college received AACSB International accreditation for the first time at both the undergraduate and graduate level (1997) which was reaffirmed in 2009; solicited over $4 million in gifts and grants used to support technology, student scholarships, faculty and staff professional development; created the university's first endowed chair (1997), and developed 12 named classrooms, labs and learning spaces within Schneider Hall.  The author/co-author of ten textbooks focusing on business data process, management information systems, and computer programming, Dock also championed the infusion of information technology throughout the business school and the University of Wisconsin MBA Consortium, a group of four UW System business schools he helped to establish in 1996.

A national search for Dock's successor will be conducted this spring, according to Dr. Patricia Kleine, UW-Eau Claire provost and vice chancellor.
