and Gains Valuable Experience

Behind every internship, opportunities lie. UW-Eau Claire students can use internships to gain valuable professional experience as well as learn more about their major. One student who took advantage of this opportunity is Garrett Bahr.
Garrett Bahr is a senior at UW-Eau Claire majoring in information systems with an emphasis in business analysis. Garrett is also working towards a minor in management. This past summer Garrett took an internship with Donaldson Company, Inc. out of Bloomington, Minnesota. Donaldson Company is among the largest and most successful filtration manufacturers in the world.
Garrett found information about his internship by Googling "information systems in the Twin Cities area". After analyzing the top search results, he went to the company website and filled out an application. Upon receiving the internship, Garrett took on the position of IT operations and infrastructure intern. This position included providing customer support for the IT Help Desk, building an infrastructure portfolio of the technology throughout the company worldwide, and creating a roadmap of the technology used in the IT Operations and Infrastructure Departments.
Garrett found his experiences and schoolwork at UW-Eau Claire to be very helpful while completing his internship. When asked how his courses helped with his internship Garrett replied, "My business communication classes really helped. I was constantly communicating with other employees via email so it is important to show good communication skills. The information systems classes...dealing with networking and system analysis and design helped also. I knew of some of the technologies they used, and I understood the project life cycle."
If he were to be offered a position with Donaldson Company, Inc. after graduation, Garrett would happily accept; citing the company's strong culture and friendly employees as something he liked about Donaldson Company, Inc.
Like Garrett, it is beneficial for UW-Eau Claire students to take advantage of the rewarding experience of an internship. Internships can be valuable experiences that can also lead to the chance of being offered a full time position.
