American Marketing Association Continues Partnership with Special Olympics
By Nick Wellenstein, Management Major, AMA VP of Communications for UW-EC
The UWEC American Marketing Association (AMA) continued their partnership with the Special Olympics this semester by working closely with Andrea Sullivan, Regional Director of Development of the Indianhead Area Special Olympics. This semester’s recent activities included a bowling tournament and Pumpkin Fest. The bowling tournament took place at Bowlwinkles, Wagners, and the UW-Eau Claire Hilltop bowling alleys. Students volunteered to sell souvenirs and assist the athletes in their lanes. Pumpkin Fest took place at Wilson Park where AMA students volunteered to carve pumpkins, paint faces, work concessions, and help with crafts and storytelling.
In addition to these events, AMA is beginning to promote the Polar Plunge, which will take place at Half Moon Beach on February 28th, 2010. The Polar Plunge is an excellent way to raise money for Special Olympics-Wisconsin, and to have fun while doing so. This spring, the AMA will be working hard to organize the 28th annual Fun Run which is to take place at Carson Park. This is AMA`s biggest event of the year! The event includes a 5k walk/run/rollerblade race to raise money for Special Olympics. Food, music and beverages will be available at Carson Park after the race.
Last year, the UW-EC AMA was named Organization of the Year by the Indianhead Area Special Olympics. In addition to numerous volunteer hours, the UW-EC AMA donated $5,500 to Special Olympics. Andrea Sullivan of Special Olympics, stated, “The UW-Eau Claire Chapter of AMA is mentioned in Special Olympics fundraising circles around the country.”
