PSE Members Compete in Regional Competition

Members from the UW-Eau Claire Chapter of Pi Sigma Epsilon, a professional sales and marketing fraternity in the College of Business, attended the Midwest regional conference November 7-9 in Normal, Ill, hosted by Illinois State University.

Five of the six attendees competed in the Pro-Am Sell-a-Thon. Based on the SPIN Selling principles created by Huthwaite, Inc. (and described in the best-selling book SPINÒ Selling) and Anthony Parinello’s Getting the Second Appointment, participants were first individually coached by a sales professional, after which they presented a mock sales call to a panel of judges. Senior mass communications major Heather Maul and junior professional sales major Patrick Lemieux were first and second place finalists respectively. Lemieux and Maul both received complimentary travel stipends to the Pi Sigma Epsilon National Convention in Norfolk, Va in March, where they will have the opportunity to compete at the national level for cash prizes. Pat Delehanty, a junior marketing major was a top six finalist. Senior professional sales major Travis King and senior marketing analytics major Rob Rice both placed in the top 10 of the competition.

The competition results put the UW-Eau Claire chapter as a nominee for Best New Chapter Award, which will be selected by the national organization.

Sophomore marketing major Kathryn Moss who attended CCO training sessions, helped earn the chapter more points toward the nomination.

Other regional schools that attended included University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, DePaul University, Northern Illinois University and University of Northern Iowa.
