Dr. Lorraine Missling, the first female faculty member in the School of Business
When the School of Business was established in 1966, the business education department consisted of two people: Dr. William Mitchell and Miss Lorraine Missling. Missle, as her friends affectionately called her, was the only female faculty member in the new business school. She possessed all of the outstanding qualities that are associated with the best educators. She was an interesting and challenging teacher, an excellent writer, a capable researcher, and an expert communicator. Dr. Missling was honored with the university's Excellence in Teaching award twice, once in 1976 and again in 1987.
Missle, who later received her doctorate, retired in 1989 after teaching at UW-Eau Claire for 24 years. Missle's influence can still be felt in the college today. She was instrumental in the development of the business communication classes, and her curriculum for the Executive Profile class has been incorporated into the college's new Student Professional Development Program.
