Finding a job in the current market, especially in this economy, is important for all. As many students approach graduation, the task of finding post-college employment is a reality check. All is not lost, as there are many recession-proof business careers available in the existing job market. According to Forbes.com, the following is a list of the Top 10 Most Recession Proof Jobs:

  1. Sales Representative

  3. Nursing
  4. Accounting Executive
  5. Accounting Staff

These careers are successful during the economic downturn for many reasons. According to the Web site, sales representatives are still in high demand by many companies, as these businesses choose to enhance their sales force in order to drive themselves out of a recession. Accountants enable employers to cut their costs and keep a close eye on their budget. Also, administrative assistant positions are available to young professionals and are an excellent way to get a foot in the door.

With all of these recession-proof jobs in the business field, college graduates should remain hopeful. Recent College of Business graduates have this advice to offer:

  • “Start looking as early as possible, and don’t hesitate on applying for positions. Apply for as many as you can without procrastination. And talk to everyone you know that is currently working for a company. It’s 75 percent about who you know these days.”
Angie Cich, UWEC Marketing Major, Sales Representative
  • “Stay positive and hopeful. Use your resources and make yourself standout from other candidates. Although the economy is doing poorly and many businesses are downsizing, there are still companies who won’t be as affected by the market. Do your research and never stop networking”
Allison Eagles, UWEC Marketing Major, Financial Project Coordinator
