Blugold CareerLink Connects Blugolds to Potential Employers
By Maria Brooks, Kayla Buhr, Kelsey Green, Kiira Wilcox
Blugold CareerLink is an online employment resource available to UW-Eau Claire students and alumni. The service is an easy way to research and apply for internships and full time job opportunities. Students can also become a part of a resume database, which is used by employers to search for job candidates. Blugold CareerLink is available at www.uwec.edu/career/careerlink/index.htm. Students can sign up for CareerLink by contacting Career Services.
Why invest in Blugold CareerLink?
Search engines like Monster and CareerBuilder are helpful, but may lack the focus that Blugold CareerLink provides. According to Erin Leifker, Career Outreach Manager for the College of Business, each job posting is pre-screened for quality and relevancy to each major and industry. This process ensures that employers are looking specifically for UW-Eau Claire students to fill vacant positions.
Last year 3,253 full-time positions, 1,810 internships, and 261 part-time positions were posted on Blugold CareerLink.
The advantages of Blugold CareerLink include:
- Having a lifetime membership
- Creating a professional profile
- Uploading employment documents
- Saving job searches and submissions
- Easy sign up for on-campus interviews
- Receiving notification of new positions
How can you use Blugold CareerLink to your advantage?
Leifker advises students to look for positions early, including to start looking in the fall for a summer internship. Additionally, she suggest to become familiar with the Web site so you can stay ahead of the competition.
Unfortunately, many students miss out on the benefits of Blugold CareerLink because they don’t know how to use it. You can start today by activating your account, uploading a copy of your resume and creating a profile. Once you have a profile and an online copy of a resume posted, checking in daily and managing your account is vital to success.
Leifker’s also suggests, “It takes more than just putting your resume out there, you have to manage it. Make use of Blugold CareerLink by using it wisely and checking it frequently.”
