The Department of Business Communication has awarded Lorraine Missling Business Communication scholarships to the following students for fall 2009:
Each student will receive $300.
Students considered for the Missling scholarship have taken one or more advanced business communication courses and were nominated by a business communication faculty member.
The Lorraine Missling Business Communication scholarship was named for Dr. Lorraine Missling, the business school’s first female faculty member. Missling was an interesting and challenging teacher, an excellent writer, a capable researcher, and an expert communicator. She was honored with the university's Excellence in Teaching award twice, once in 1976 and again in 1987. Her influence can still be felt in the college today. Missling was instrumental in the development of the business communication classes and her curriculum for the Executive Profile class has been incorporated into the college's new Student Professional Development Program. She retired in 1989 after teaching at UW-Eau Claire for 24 years.
