Sarah Leuck, a senior accounting student from Gordon, Wis, is the 2009 COB Outstanding Senior. She will be recognized at the UW-Eau Claire Alumni Association Outstanding Student Luncheon, Wednesday, May 6. A member of the University Honors Program, Leuck will graduate in May 2009.
“Sarah is an outstanding student and a wonderful person,” said Dr. D’Arcy Becker, accounting and finance department chair and Leuck’s academic adviser. “She exemplifies everything we hope for our majors – she has brains, integrity, compassion and energy that make her future limitless.”
Leuck said she chose accounting as her major because she enjoyed math and found the business world to be intriguing. She also felt it was a very versatile major, which offered a variety of career options. Leuck added a management minor and leadership courses to her already full course schedule because she said she believes that, “management skills are needed in every profession and at every job level”.
Two of Leuck’s fondest memories of UW-Eau Claire included being a member of the Student Accounting Society and participating in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
“Being a member of SAS executive board allowed me to use and develop my leadership skills," she said, "and I met a ton of great people I know I will remain friends with long after college.”
Leuck also enjoyed working in the VITA program.
“It was a great experience as I was able to apply the concepts I was learning in the classroom while helping others in the community,” she said.
Leuck’s future plans include taking the CPA exam this summer and fall. In September, she will take an auditing position with McGladrey & Pullen CPAs in Duluth, Min. Eventually, she would like to obtain a Masters degree.
