Bill Hannaford joined the Department of Business Administration in the fall 1976 and recalls being instantly drawn to interacting and working with students. “The university has bright, capable students that have the work ethic and native abilities so in demand by recruiters, “ said Hannaford. “ It's gratifying to be able to teach students like that!”
His upbeat and interactive personality has allowed him to bring his classroom to life beyond the textbook. “Dr. Hannaford helped us understand that marketing was more than multiple choice tests and essays,” said former student David Riopel, “Marketing was about relating to people, making tough choices, and holding ourselves to the highest standard.”
Over the past thirty years, Hannaford has taught principles of marketing, business policy, consumer behavior, retailing, promotion, professional selling, sales management, advanced sales, and marketing technology. He was a pioneer in the application of modern technology in the classroom, using interactive video technology as early as 1991. He was one of the first faculty members to teach in the MBA program, which was established in 1975.
Hannaford also served as department chair from 1983-1988.
He is or has been a board member of Viking Electric Supply of Minnesota, and Huebsch Services, Inc. He has also served on the boards of many nonprofit organizations, such as Sacred Heart Hospital, UW-Eau Claire Foundation, and Literacy Volunteers-Chippewa Valley.
His retirement plans include spending time with his wife, Gretchen Bell, and traveling throughout Europe, Greece, the Caribbean, and the United States. He also looks forward to have more time to fish, sail, hunt and golf.
