The UW-Eau Claire chapter of Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) was named first runner up in the overall chapter competition at the SIFE Annual Regional Competition, March 31, 2006 in Minneapolis, MN. Students from twenty-five colleges and universities in South and North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin participated in the event.
The UW-Eau Claire SIFE team also finished first in the entrepreneurship individual competition. Two key elements of the award-wining project were the Women of UW-Eau Claire swimsuit calendar, a fundraiser that raised over $6,400 for the American Cancer Society, and the Battle of the Bands, a project projected to raise over $2,000 for the Eau Claire SIFE chapter. The UW-Eau Claire entrepreneurship team will advance to the National Competition in Kansas City, MO, May 21-23.
Representing UW-Eau Claire were Jana Anderson (entrepreneur major from Northfield, MN), Andy Landgraf (entrepreneur major from New Berlin, WI), Theo Howard (art major from Madison, WI), Jason Van Nurden (marketing major from Chippewa Falls, WI), and James Mueller (finance major from Sun Prairie, WI). Dr. Larry Honl, Business Communication, is the faculty advisor for the group.
SIFE is a nonprofit organization that gives students the tools to learn the free enterprise system in a real working situation. Founded in 1975, SIFE has grown to become one of the largest collegiate organizations in the world. SIFE teams are active on more than 1,500 college and university campuses in 37 countries around the world.
