Dr. Roger Selin, professor of accounting and finance, received the Excellence in Teaching Award, which recognizes outstanding ability to inspire students to high standards of scholarship. Alumni select the award recipient. Selin also received the award in 1974.
Alumni noted Selin's meticulous classroom preparation, his love of teaching and his commitment to ensuring that students receive the best education possible. He brings the theories and practice of accounting alive by relating accounting to real-life situations, alumni said.
But alumni said that Selin's real strength as an educator transcends the classroom. He's always available to help students with homework, review exams, offer career advice, discuss personal problems or offer words of encouragement.
"Roger Selin is the most dedicated teacher I have encountered in my nearly 40 years in higher education as a student and a faculty member," said Dr. Michael Wilson, chair of the accounting and finance department. "This award could not go to a more deserving educator who truly embodies the university's motto of 'Excellence."
