Nancy Flyen, a summer 2004 graduate of the MBA program, was named the 2004-05 Outstanding MBA Student by the College of Business graduate faculty.
Flyen completed her undergraduate work at UW-Eau Claire in 1995 with a degree in Accounting. After graduation she went on to positions with Honeywell Inc. and Hutchinson Technology Inc.
While a graduate student, she worked full-time as the Central Wisconsin accounting manager for Ocean Spray Cranberries, located in Tomah, Wisconsin. Even the evening commutes between Tomah and Eau Claire didn’t deter her from completing her MBA, as she moved through the program in near record time.
An outstanding student, Flyen achieved a 4.0 grade point average during her studies. Faculty noted she was able to relate course topics to her work experience which stimulated thoughtful discussions. Classmates commented on her degree of thoroughness and her ability to work well with others in team situations.
Flyen, who recently moved to Eau Claire to serve as the regional controller for Lutheran Social Services, has oversight of over 100 social programs in 34 counties in western and northern Wisconsin. She and her husband, David, share six children and six grandchildren – with a seventh grandchild on the way.
