Fall 2009 Sim Super Bowl Winners Announced

Students in Management 449 classes tested their knowledge of business at the Fall 2009 Sim Super Bowl, a three-hour competition where student teams applied what they have learned during their capstone Strategic Management course. The event was held Thursday, November 19, 2009 from 5:30-8:30 pm in the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Schofield Auditorium.

Teams used Glo-Bus, a computer simulation, where teams run digital camera companies in head-to-head competition against their classmates. Each team made decisions that affected their company’s performance and its rank within the global marketplace. Decisions ranged from R&D, camera components, and camera performance to production operations and worker compensation, to pricing and marketing, to the financing of company operations.

“The pace (of Sim Super Bowl) is very quick,” according to Kristy Lauver, associate professor of management and one of the Management 449 instructors. “Teams make six decisions within three hours—one decision every half hour,” she explained.

Individual company and industry results were posted every three hours and overall and industry leaders were announced at the end of the competition, according to Lauver.

Digital Exposure Company, managed by Corey Hartman, Derek Madson, Tammy Nytes, and Brian Skora, was the Fall 2009 Sim Superbowl leader, as the company had the highest overall score, highest earnings per share and highest stock price. Besoin Company, managed by Matthew Dassow, Nicholas Ehlers, Dallas Platt, and Kevin Terpening, had the highest return on equity.
