How many administrative practicum students have you mentored previously?
Uncertain of answer. The organization has been involved in the program since the early 1980's. We've had six students in the last 6 or 7 years.

Why you became a preceptor?
Practicums such as this one provide practical experience which will be invaluable in a student's career.

What is your approach to working with students?
Students have every opportunity to function in the same manner as Brewster Village managerial staff.

How often do you interact with students, in what way?
Several times a week interaction occurs. It could be one to one, during staff meetings, in committee meetings, or while working on projects.

What is your philosophy on mentoring/supervision?
Students need to take the initiative when they have questions, concerns, or need guidance. They need to ask where to go for information they need to respond to the issue at hand.

How do you encourage the student's growth?
Students are involved in the day to day activities of the facility. Projects which are assigned to them are incorporated into the operation. They have the opportunity to translate theory in practice.

What else should practicum students expect from you or from their overall experience at your facility?
The opportunity to be involved in as much, or as little, as they wish to be.
