Why you became a preceptor?
I enjoy coaching and sharing, and I learn from the students too
How often do you interact with students, in what way?
I provide support, and advice, but let the student self-direct their experience
What is your philosophy on mentoring/supervision?
It's there internship, and I allow much freedom to them. The only area I have an expectation of them is in regards to rotations through departments. Much can be learned there, and I strongly encourage they work some of the actual shifts, and do some of the actual duties of each job- where certain skill or license is not required
How do you encourage the student's growth?
Our entire staff is used to having students, and we enjoy sharing our knowledge. Students should know I have a passion for 'servant leadership'
What else should practicum students expect from you or from their overall experience at your facility?
Through frequent contact; listening; and asking questions, I attempt to provide them with leadership experience.
