the Essentials Program

CREDIT Students

Adult learners who have graduated from a recognized high school or have the educational equivalent and demonstrate ability to succeed in college level work, but who are not interested in seeking a degree, may attend the university as special students. Admission criteria for special students are more flexible than for degree seeking students, and no formal admission is required prior to the Special Student Registration.

Essentials courses taken for credit do not fulfill requirements for a business major or minor, or Health Care administration major, or MBA program course prerequisites.

Registration
Special students may register for Essentials courses by submitting the Special Student Application with Course Selection Form to UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education, P.O. Box 4004, Eau Claire, WI 54702-4004. Course offerings are found in the university's Class Schedule. Courses are listed under the BSAD prefix in the Department of Management and Marketing.

Individuals must make a $100 down payment and submit a partial payment agreement at the time they submit their special student application. Instructions and links to the forms can be found on the Registrar's Office website.

Cost
Normal tuition plus $135 per credit special fee.

Renting Your Textbooks
Essentials students taking their classes for credit may obtain textbooks from the University Bookstore's Instructional Resource Rental Department, located in Davies Center, by filling out the online textbook request.

All textbooks will be mailed according to shipping dates in timeline. Students should request their textbooks two weeks prior to the beginning of classes to insure they will have their books for class. Students living near Eau Claire may choose to pick up and return their textbooks in person and avoid shipping charges.

Students must return all rental materials according to the semester timeline; fines are imposed for late return. CDs, manuals, study guides and other media that are checked out as a set with textbook must be returned with the textbooks.
