Management and Marketing - Management

Management is the process of coordinating organizational resources--land, labor, capital and information--to meet a goal. It is the force that unites everyone in an organization and sets everything in motion.

As a management student you will learn to...

  • Critically analyze management-related problems, identify appropriate solutions, review courses of action, and make recommendations
  • Locate, select, and place qualified employees
  • Monitor trends that indicate the need for new products and services
  • Design, implement, and measure training and development programs to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of an organization’s human resources
  • Develop operational strategies to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders to achieve overall organizational goals
  • Understand statistical processes and use analytical and problem solving skills
  • Identify new business opportunities and evaluate the feasibility of these ideas
  • Communicate information clearly and concisely to internal and external stakeholders
  • Understand ethical and social implications of managerial decisions
  • Work effectively with people in project teams
  • Lead in the management of people

Careers in management include retail management, human resource management, employee benefits and compensation, inventory control, purchasing, retail buying, labor relations, operations management, and business ownership.

  • Comprehensive Major

    (60 credits/ no minor required)

  • General Management
    Provides a broad background focusing on the effective management and development of employees within the firm.

    Entrepreneurship
    Designed for individuals who plan on running their family's business, starting their own business, or working for existing growth-oriented firms. The program gives students the skills and knowledge necessary to organize and manage independent and corporate ventures.

    Human Resource Management
    Prepares students for careers in HRM immediately upon graduation or shortly thereafter. Students are required to study for and take the Society for Human Resource Management certification test.

    Operations/Materials Management
    Prepares students for careers in production and service operations management. Students are required to pursue professional certification in production and inventory management, integrated resource management, purchasing management, or quality assurance.

  • Management
    Provides a general understanding of management. The minor is available to business students as well as those students majoring in a discipline outside the College of Business.

    Is a special recognition awarded to those who complete additional coursework in leadership studies, meet specific gradepoint requirements, and provide evidence of leadership experience gained while at UW-Eau Claire.
