Adam Worthington, 19 year old Express baseball player, His mother is Caucasian and his father is African American a sophomore at the University of Chicago in Illinois arrived in Eau Claire about 2 months ago to play his first season for the Express. So far, he’s had a strong season. As a starter, he holds a 4 and 2 records with a 2 point 39 earned run average. While he’s had success, he still wants to improve on the mound. Today, Eau Claire remains a predominately white society; about 94 percent of Eau Claire’s population is white, according to U.S. Census data from 2000. Its view on people of color, however, seems to have substantially changed. “That's all for the better” Worthington says, While Aaron dealt with racial hardships. Worthington could not recall a time during his stay in Eau Claire that he felt uncomfortable or discriminated against because of his ethnic background. “Everybody seems to be pretty cool some people crack jokes at me sometimes every now and then” His college coach in Illinois had connection with the Eau Claire express coach and sent him over to Eau Claire to gain more experience for himself so he could be up and prepared for next season for the University of Illinois at Chicago. He says a good team with more player of color, would be better to have a mix of player because of the many and different ethnics groups he has yet to see he say there all ways nice to meet new people.
