Join us for a two-week introduction to the business culture of China at Jinan University, Zhuhai campus. The Summer 2015 program will be led by UWEC Professor Thomas Sulzer in Information Systems. You will experience the language, culture, food, and business etiquette while in Guangzhou and Hong Kong. A combination of pre-departure lessons, on-site lectures, and tours of important business and cultural sites will give participants an overview of China today.
The main part of the program will be hosted by Jinan University-Zhuhai campus, located on the southern coast of China on the Pearl River Delta. The location of Zhuhai along with the deep water port makes it a major attraction for foreign capital. Zhuhai's surrounding environment has made it the garden city of China. Ten days in Zhuhai will be followed by a three-day guided visit to businesses and historical sites in Hong Kong. There will also be business and cultural visits in Zhuhai and the surrounding area.
HOUSING & MEALS
In Hong Kong, you will be staying in the Panorama Hotel. In Zhuhai, you will be staying at the Junlin Hotel near campus. At both hotels, you will reside in double rooms, and breakfast is included in the program fee. Some additional group meals will be provided in both locations. In Zhuhai, most of your meals can be purchased at the cafeteria at a reasonable price or in the surrounding area at local restaurants.

*This faculty-led program receives funding from the Blugold Commitment Faculty-Led International Immersion Experiences (FLIIE) program. The goals of the Blugold Commitment are to extend access and affordability to these exceptional high-impact practices for all UW-Eau Claire undergraduates, to ensure that more of these opportunities are available for these students, and to increase the numbers of students who participate. Therefore, while UW-Eau Claire undergraduate students are encouraged to participate in multiple high-impact immersion programs, each student is eligible to receive BCDT funding for only one FLIIE experience. Any student who has participated in a previous FLIIE experience is not eligible to receive funding through BCDT for a second FLIIE experience.
**There is $1500 in scholarships available to high achieving students (3.0 GPA or higher) with high financial need, with preference given to students with a multi-ethnic background. The scholarship is provided through the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU). All applicants are encouraged to apply. Applications for this scholarship will be sent to all committed applicants at the time of the program application deadline.
You will be paired with a Chinese "buddy" who will help you navigate Chinese culture outside of the formal framework of the program. Past students rated spending time with their buddies as one of the highlights of the experience.
Having a short 14-day immersion in Chinese business and culture was just the right program for me to explore the possibility of participating in other longer opportunities in China. The student buddies at Jinan University-Zhuhai were fantastic, and a key component of the program and its success. I learned a lot in a short amount of time.
My experience abroad has helped me to grow as a person and understand the world around me. By actively participating in a global society, I can further assess scenarios and analyze them from multiple perspectives to arrive at the best outcome. – Sam, Summer 2012
I see the world differently now and have a profound sense of gratitude for the country we live in. – DeeAnne, Summer 2012
