Program Description:
Linnaeus, Sweden

Choose to study abroad in Sweden at Linnaeus University! UW-Eau Claire students who participate in this exchange will take courses in English with students from all over the world. Linnaeus University is a modern university with 35,000 students, and is the sixth largest university in Sweden.

Students now have the option to study at either Linnaeus University location,Växjö or Kalmar. Students will have to select which campus they prefer as courses can only be taken at one campus.

Växjö (population 80,000) is the capital of Kronoberg in southeastern Sweden, 120 miles southwest of Stockholm. The heart of the traditional Swedish province of Småland, declared as the "Greenest City in Europe" is known for its forests, lakes, and unspoiled nature. Växjö was an important trading center as early as the 8th century, and its royal charter dates back to the 14th century.

Kalmar (population 36,000) is located on the Baltic Sea and is the capital of Kalmar County. Kalmar is surrounded by water and the city center is on its own island. Today Kalmar is a modern city, but anywhere you go, you still see the history.

Your housing is arranged by Linnaeus University in a residence hall or off-campus apartment. Residence halls have single rooms with private bathrooms and shared kitchen facilities. You'll cook your own meals in the kitchens or eat at one of several campus cafeterias.

Students can choose courses in a variety of disciplines. To learn about eligibility requirements, academic offerings, and the academic calendar;  click here: Academics - Linnaeus

To get involved at Linnaeus, join the International Students group. This group puts on a lot of activities for both Swedish and international students. You can also join one of the many student nations! A nation is a student association which organizes parties and cultural activities for its members, e.g. dinners with traditional foods from the region, concerts etc. Examples of student nations are Student Radio, Campus Cinema (the film association), Credo (Växjö Christian Student Association), VUGI (Växjö University Sports Club), VUSK (the student choir), Isterbandet (the student band),and many others.

Furthermore, almost all exchange students who come to Linnaeus University are paired with a Swedish "buddy", or mentor, who also is a student at the university. Your "buddy" will give you a helping hand when adjusting to life at Linnaeus and in Sweden.

Växjö is a very diverse university, and because of this I have had the chance to meet not only a lot of Swedish students, but students from all over the world. This university and experience has enriched my education in ways I could not have imagined before I came over here. Therefore, I would recommend this program, or any other, to any student who was interested. -Scott

The International Students group organizes regional trips each semester. Students often take time to explore Sweden or catch a train to Copenhagen & see other parts of Europe while studying abroad.
