Germany ISU Kassel

The University of Wisconsin System and the universities in the German state of Hessen are partnered in a unique, state-to-state exchange program. Through this program, UW-Eau Claire students may attend one of four International Summer Universities (ISUs).

The University of Kassel, which hosts the ISU program, is a young and modern academic institution that offers a unique study environment set within a picturesque and lively campus. The new campus of the university is considered to be one of the most attractive campuses and was ranked the second greenest campus in Germany, located in the heart of the city. Everything you need is on campus or within walking distance.

Kassel is a lively city of about 200.000 inhabitants, located in the center of Germany, from where large and important cities such as Berlin, Hamburg or Frankfurt can be easily accessed.

Kassel is situated in the northern part of the federal state of Hesse, which has twelve state-run higher education institutions of the highest academic standard. The Hessen universities are not only a forum for international students and scientists to further hone their academic crafts, however, but also a place to explore diverse landscapes and enjoy varied cultural opportunities, which attracts many international visitors, as well. It is the perfect place to discover German life and culture. Whether you like museums, the outdoors, or Grimm's fairy tales, Kassel has a lot to offer.

Aside from providing host families for every Kassel student, the University of Kassel also offers several cultural programs; past events have included a trip to Erfurt and a hiking excursion. Students can explore many of the parks and recreation areas throughout the city as well as practice their language skills at a sidewalk café or restaurant. Trips to nearby castles and the Grimm Brothers Museum are also excellent ways to fill free time and connect with your host country.

The University of Kassel also offers optional field trips. In past summers, students have been able to visit Berlin and a nature reserve. In addition, Kassel is situated near the center of Germany, making travel to cities such as Berlin, Munich and Frankfurt quite easy.
