THE LOCATION
The university is composed of different campuses and university centers located in the main cities of the Valparaíso region. The region combines beautiful weather, wonderful beaches and the splendid Cordillera de Los Andes. With a population of more than one million, the region has a multicultural flavor. The city of Valparaíso is the cultural and legislative capital, and the main commercial harbor, of Chile. Seventy miles from the capital city of Chile, Santiago, Valparaíso fascinates visitors with its history, geography, and architecture.

HOUSING & MEALS
Program participants live with host families, which offers an excellent opportunity to learn about family life in Chile, meet locals, and practice Spanish on a daily basis.

Accommodations are arranged with carefully selected host families. In general only one student is placed per family; in all cases, students have their own room.

Past participants report that the informal learning with their family was as important as their classwork to their academic experience. In the words of a past student, "I was so glad to live with a host family rather than in a hotel or dorm. It was a great cultural experience."

ACADEMICS
Students will take courses in Spanish and can choose from a number of courses in fields including agronomy, sciences (biology, chemistry, kinesiology, physics), economics, engineering, natural resources (geography, oceanography), and religious sciences.  Participants may enroll in Spanish language courses and courses for international students in combination with regular university courses. Academics - Chile

STUDENT LIFE
Students in Chile often meet friends through host families.  Other ways students have gotten involved are by joining gyms, taking dance or cooking classes, and attending events at the university.

STUDENT EXPERIENCE
"[The program] provides a lot of flexibility of classes and activities while you're there, and the culture is quite different and fascinating."

"As a part of Chilean culture (and Latin American culture), families are very close. That is to say, my fellow Chilean classmates all lived at home, had no campus to live on, they spent a lot of time at home, and there was not a strong university community to take part in. Therefore, while studying in Chile, getting to know my host family was key to experiencing Chilean culture, because family life is so integral."
