To apply, you must be a currently enrolled, degree-seeking, undergraduate UW-Eau Claire student. You need to be in good academic standing and have a cumulative GPA of 2.5. You must have completed French 201 prior to beginning the program. You may apply as a freshman, but must have at least sophomore standing by the time the program begins.
COURSES/ COURSE EQUIVALENCIES
You will enroll in three sequential language courses, plus a 1-or-3-credit French conversation course, for a total of 12 credit hours. An example of a sequence would be Second Year French II,Third Year French I and II, plus French Conversation (12 credits). Course enrollment is determined by a placement test at the beginning of the program. The language courses are taught at the Institute of French Studies at the University of Pau; your classmates will be other international students.
In addition, you will take one or two elective courses taught specifically for USAC-Pau students. The elective courses are designed to familiarize you with the region and help complete requirements for other disciplines. Courses taught in French are appropriate for third year students and above, and courses taught in English are appropriate for all students.
For a more detailed list of French language and elective courses, please access the USAC website. You are required to take a minimum of 15 credits for the semester and may take a maximum of 18 credits.

INTERNSHIPS IN PAU:
Qualified student may apply for internships for the spring semester only. These internships are designed to complement the academic program. As a result, interns receive credit (a maximum of three) but no financial compensation. The schedule and number of work hours will be determined by the schedule of USAC courses. Internships students are expected to stay in Pau until mid-May. USAC will attempt to place students in any major field of work/study. Students should notify the Pau coordinator about their desire to do an internship at least 45 days prior to arrival in Pau. Students interested in the internship must have 4 semester of French, 3.00 GPA, and junior standing at start of the internship. For a list of past placements visit the USAC website.
This program fulfills the complete Foreign Culture requirement upon successful completion. Please email Degree Review at email@example.com after completion of the program to update your degree audit. (Students earning a B.A., B.F.A. or B.M degree in the College of Arts & Sciences cannot use study abroad to fulfill their foreign language/foreign culture requirement. See the university catalog for details.)
You may participate in the program for the full academic year or for the spring semester. (Fall semester alone is not an option except with special permission from the UW-Eau Claire French faculty.) The academic year runs from September through April; spring semester is January-April. Exact dates will be available the semester prior to departure.
