Please note: you will use the same application to apply for all of the grants listed below. Applicants' names and ID# will be forwarded to the UW-Eau Claire Financial Aid Office to determine eligibility for the need-based grants.
Need-based eligibility is based on your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You must have a current FAFSA on file to be considered for the need-based grants.
NON NEED-BASED GRANTS AVAILABLE* Descriptions of the grants not based on financial need for the various terms are provided below. All grants will be awarded based on information on the application, and gpa. You do not need to apply for a specific grant.
Genevieve Hagen International Study Abroad Scholarship (1: $500); FALL or SPRING This scholarship shall be awarded annually to an outstanding UW-Eau Claire student planning to participate in the University’s International Study Abroad program. Preference will be given to sophomores, juniors or seniors majoring in foreign languages who are planning to study in a Scandinavian country or Germany. Second preference for a student of any major studying abroad in a European country.
Dolly Rounds Memorial Scholarship ( 2 each semester: $300); SPRING & FALL SEMESTER This scholarship is available to students with a 3.0 GPA or above, in any academic field. The scholarship is based on academic merit, exceptional talent, or unique personal characteristics.
Bob and Jane Fraser Scholarship for Study in Scotland (1: $1,000): FALL or Spring This scholarship will be awarded to a deserving UW-Eau Claire student who will study abroad in Scotland. Recipient must be accepted into the study abroad program, and have a cumulative grade point average of 2.8 or higher.
Viennese Ball Scholarship (10-14 each semester, $500 award); SUMMER/FALL, SPRING UW-Eau Claire students accepted to study abroad on a Center for International Education program. Preference will be given to students accepted to study in Africa, Asia (excluding Australia and New Zealand), Central and Eastern Europe, and Central and South America. Major and academic merit may also be considered.
William Underwood Study Abroad Grant (1: $500 award); FALL or SPRING This scholarship will be awarded to a deserving and promising UW-Eau Claire student who will be participating in a study abroad experience. Applicant must be accepted into the study abroad program.
NEED-BASED FOUNDATION GRANTS* Descriptions of the grants based on financial need for the various terms are provided below. All grants will be awarded based on information on the attached application, financial need as determined by the UW-Eau Claire Financial Aid Office, and gpa. You do not need to apply for a specific grant.
James Alexander International Study Abroad Grant Two $500 awards available in 2011-2012; SP only To enable a student with great potential and limited financial resources to pursue study abroad opportunities. Students must have a GPA of at least 3.0.
Foundation: International Education-Study Abroad Grants ~$7,800 available in 2011-2012, SS/F/Y/SP. Award amounts vary. Students enrolling in Study Abroad Programs offered by the Center for International Education or UW-Eau Claire departments will be considered for grants based upon financial need, scholarship, and personal statement.
Global Awareness-International Study Abroad ~ $10,000 available in 2011-2012, SS/F/Y/SP. Award amounts typically range from $500-$1,000 Students enrolling in Study Abroad Programs offered by the Center for International Education or UW-Eau Claire departments will be considered for scholarships based upon financial need, scholarship, and personal statement.
Global Awareness-Williams/Rhoades Scholarship Fund One $1,000 award; first available Spring 12 Students with high financial need, accepted to a UWEC study abroad program or immersion experience. Preference will be given to students with a major in the College of Education and Human Services.
Laurel and Mark Fleming Study Abroad Scholarship Two $1,000 awards available in 2011-2012. F/Y or SP This scholarship will be awarded to a deserving UW-Eau Claire student with financial need who would not otherwise be able to study abroad without financial assistance. Recipient must be accepted into the study abroad program, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher, be a first generation college student and never traveled outside the United States.
Willa Hamlin International Study Abroad One $1000 award was available in 2010-2011; 2011-2012 specifics have not been released. F/Y or SP This scholarship will be awarded to a deserving UW-Eau Claire student with financial need who will be participating in a study abroad experience.
Bernard and Anne Hirsch International Study Abroad One $200 award is available in 2011-2012. F/Y/SP/SS Award to students with demonstrated financial need allowing them to participate in study abroad experience with a UW-Eau Claire program.
Frances Kirby Family Memorial Scholarship $2500 is available in 2011-2012; F/Y/SP/SS; minimum award $500 Minimum 3.0 GPA; no geographic preference; open to all academic fields. Scholarship based on academic merit, exceptional talent, unique personal characteristics or future potential. Financial need is a primary requirement. Preference will be given to students who have never traveled outside the United States. Applicants must be originally from the state of Wisconsin.
Sandra Nelson Study Abroad Scholarship Two $1,000 awards, one for F/Y/one for SP available in 2011-2012 This scholarship will be awarded to a deserving UW-Eau Claire student with financial need who will be participating in a study abroad experience. One recipient will be selected for fall travel and one recipient will be selected for spring travel. Preference will be given to applicants who have not previously participated in a study abroad experience.
Scott Vander Sanden International Study Scholarship One $1,000 award is available in 2011-2012; F/Y, SP, or SS Applicants must be UW-Eau Claire students majoring in Finance, have demonstrated financial need, and accepted to the international study abroad program. If there is not a student majoring in Finance with demonstrated financial need who is accepted for study abroad, this scholarship could be awarded to any College of Business student with financial need who has been accepted to study abroad.
Lance Walter and Susan Sabatke Study Abroad Scholarship One award annually at $1,000; new as of Spring 12 Deserving UW-Eau Claire student with high financial need, accepted into the study abroad program, participating in study abroad for the first time will be considered.
Brett Weller Memorial One $1,000 award is available in 2011-2012 ; F/Y or SP The scholarship shall be awarded to an outstanding UW-Eau Claire student from Hudson, WI, (a graduate of Hudson High School) accepted into the UW-Eau Claire Study Abroad program. Financial need should be a consideration but not the highest priority. If there are no students from Hudson applying for study abroad, applicants from Western Wisconsin will be given preference and then any student from Wisconsin.
