The program is open to all academically eligible undergraduate UW-Eau Claire students. You must be in good academic standing and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.3. You may apply as a freshman.
Academic credits are not tied to this experience. However, students can receive 3 credits of Foreign Culture. (Note that students pursuing a B.A., B.F.A., or B.M. degree in the College of Arts & Sciences MUST take the equivalent of two semesters of a foreign language to fulfill the FL/FC requirement. See the university catalogue for details.)
Completion of this program can fulfill your service-learning requirement. You must have this approved with the service learning office prior to the trip.
The program will take place over Winterim 2016 during the first two weeks of January.
Arrive in Guatemala City and travel to Antigua where we will stay the first three nights and visit Project Safe Passage, Volcano Pacaya, and Colegio La Salle.
Travel to Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos, an orphanage, where we will stay onsite as a group for four nights.
Travel to San Lucas Mission in Sololá where we will stay in a local hotel and work alongside the Guatemalan people. We will also visit Chichicastenango, a local market, go on a tour to Panajachel, a tourist town, and explore the cultural and natural beauty of Guatemala.
