The Program

This exciting new program is a consortium of 6 universities, three in Wisconsin and three in Scotland. Partner universities include:

Scotland: University of Aberdeen, University of Glasgow, University of Stirling

Wisconsin: UW-Eau Claire, UW-La Crosse, UW-Stout

As a UW-Eau Claire student, you may choose to study for a semester or an academic year at any of the three Scottish universities. You will live in the residence halls and take classes with Scottish students, taught by Scottish professors. It will be a true immersion into Scottish university culture.

Locations

THE UNIVERSITY OF ABERDEEN

Founded in 1495, the University of Aberdeen is the third oldest university in Scotland and the fifth oldest in the U.K. With a student population of 13,000, Aberdeen offers nearly 90 majors in three Colleges: Life Sciences & Medicine, Physical Sciences, and Arts & Social Sciences. You can find complete information at http://www.abdn.ac.uk

Aberdeen

The University campus lies just north of the heart of Aberdeen, a thriving city of 200,000. With excellent museums, great concert venues, and a vibrant nightlife, the city offers something for everyone. And its location--on the coast, at the confluence of two rivers, and near the Cairngorm Mountains guarantees both spectacular scenery and incredible opportunities for those who love the outdoors. Aberdeen also has an international airport with direct flights to many European destinations, making it a convenient base for travelling outside the UK.

Housing and Meals
At Aberdeen, you will stay in one of the Hillhead Halls, a group of 7 different residences, with a range of services provided, and corresponding range of costs. You can choose between "catered accommodation," which comes with a meal plan' or "self-catered", which means you have access to a kitchen where you cook your own meals. You can find details at http://www.abdn.ac.uk/accommodation/hillhead.shtml

Academic Calendar
At Aberdeen, you may study for Term 1 (13 weeks, September-December), for Semester 2 (19 weeks, late January-June, including a 3 week break) or for the full academic year.

THE UNIVERSITY OF GLASGOW

If you are looking for a taste of big city living, the University of Glasgow may be the place for you. One of the oldest and most prestigious research universities in the UK, it is also one of the largest, with a student population approaching 20,000. An urban campus with buildings scattered throughout the West End of Glasgow, the University offers nearly 100 majors to choose from. Complete details are at http://www.gla.ac.uk/ Students with some studio arts background also have the opportunity to combine study at the University of Glasgow with a course in the Studio Art Study Abroad Programme located at the Glasgow School of Art.

Glasgow
With a population of 570,000, Glasgow is Scotland's largest city. Whether your interest is art, architecture, nightlife, shopping, or sports, you'll find it in Glasgow. And with nearly 80 parks, it's also possible to find green spaces in the midst of the bustle of city life.

Housing
The University of Glasgow offers study abroad housing in one of 7 university halls, some of which offer more traditional dorm-style rooms and some of which have apartment-style housing. Most are self-catering. Go to http://www.gla.ac.uk/services/accommodation/general/self-catered.htm for details.

Academic Calendar
The Glasgow academic year is divided into 2 semesters. Semester 1 runs mid September until mid-December, inclusive of all teaching and examinations. Semester 2 runs from mid January through late May, inclusive of all exams & assessment periods. Semester 2 includes a 3-week spring break.

THE UNIVERSITY OF STIRLING

With a student population of 9,000, the University of Stirling is known for programs in Film & Media Studies, English, History, Environmental Science, Management, Social Work, and Sociology. Built in the rolling hills of a former Airthrey estate-with Airthrey Castle still in place as a teaching building-the Stirling campus boasts a friendly atmosphere and a strong community spirit. A large percentage of students live on campus and there are many opportunities for student involvement. Find details at http://www.external.stir.ac.uk

Stirling
Stirling is Scotland's newest city and is a short bus ride from campus. With a population of around 41,000, the city offers a warm community welcome and is within easy reach of both Glasgow (35 minutes by train) and Edinburgh (25 minutes by train).

Housing
At Stirling, study abroad students stay in on-campus flats or chalets, where 3-7 students have single bedrooms but share living, kitchen and bathroom space. There are meal packages available, but most students choose to cook for themselves with the kitchen becoming the social center of the living space! Find details at http://www.studentaccommodation.stir.ac.uk/undergraduate/ret-undergrads.php

Academic Calendar
The Stirling academic calendar is divided into two 15-week semesters. The autumn semester runs from September to mid-December and spring from February to late May. There is a one week mid-semester break during each semester. Assessment takes place before the end of each semester. Find details at http://www.stir.ac.uk/study-abroad/
