The Program

UW-Eau Claire sent its first group of students to Greece during the academic year 2008-2009.

Your host in Greece is the American College Thessaloniki (ACT), a Greek university where you will take classes with Greek and other international students. ACT is known for its strong business offerings. Class size is small, and classes are very interactive.

A three-day field trip, typically to Athens, is included in the program costs, and you can also spend time exploring some of the 1400 Greek islands. Thessaloniki is also considered the gateway to the Balkans and Western Europe is within easy reach.

Location

Thessaloniki, population 1 million, is located in northern Greece. The city was founded in 315 BC on a prehistoric settlement dating back to 2300 BC, making it one of the oldest cities in Europe. The city is named after Alexander the Great's sister.

With a modern seafront, Thessaloniki is a Mediterranean city that has also preserved the vestiges of its Roman and Byzantine history. Today, Thessaloniki has a very active cultural life, as well as being an important economic, industrial, and commercial center. There is a large student population in the city--literally one in every ten pedestrians is a university student.

There are also many clubs on campus, including: American Football Club, Cinema Club, Field Trip Club, Horse Riding Club, History and International Relations Society, Lifeguard Club, Marketing Society, Mountaineering Club, ACT band, PC Games Design Club, ACT Radio (Radio ACTive), Sailing Club, and Scuba Diving Club.

Academic Calendar

Fall semester runs from mid September to mid December. Spring semester runs from early February to early June, with a two-week spring break. Exact program dates are determined the semester prior to departure.

Expenses

The estimated Wisconsin resident charge for one semester in 2009-2010 is $10,225. This includes full-time UW-Eau Claire tuition, double room, CISI insurance, program excursions, and administrative fees. Minnesota residents add reciprocity, while non-residents add $900 for out-of-state fees.

Additional costs: passport, visa (academic year or spring only), books, meals, personal expenses, local transportation and airfare. Estimate another $4,000 for these costs in the fall; $4,800 in the spring, due to the visa costs.

Total Wisconsin resident estimated cost is $14,225 for the fall; $15,025 for the spring. Costs estimates may change at any time.

Financial Aid/Scholarships

If you qualify for financial aid, you can apply your aid to program costs.
