An Interview with Sara N.
Sara N., an economics major, took four classes at the University of Limerick.  Three of them fulfilled UW-Eau Claire General Education requirements and the other counted towards her economics major.  She said her economics course was a “very valuable way to learn about the Irish economy, as well as how America’s role as a financial powerhouse is portrayed from a European perspective.”  Sara also joined a UL softball team to get involved outside of the classroom.

Sara love the Irish cultural experience.  “ Ireland is a country with a rich history, great scenery, and affordable travel opportunities.  The people of Ireland are not judgmental, but rather appreciative that you are studying abroad and learning more about their culture. Overall, I enjoyed Ireland because it was a more relaxed daily life.”

Within Ireland, Sara visited Dublin, Killarney, Cork, Galway, Ennis, and Lehinch.  She also went on an adventure to mainland Europe with four friends. “We had an extensive holiday break and traveled to several countries--Italy, Austria, Germany, The Netherlands, Switzerland, France, Spain.”   She said that for her the most challenging parts of the trip were also the most rewarding. “It was up to me to make travel arrangements, to book flights, to find the correct train stations, book hostels, and so on.  But, you figure that stuff out on your own and really become good at being independent.”

When asked how studying abroad has changed her life she said, “It was the best decision I made in my college career.  It opened my mind, which at times, used to be narrow.  I have created lifelong friendships.  One of my Irish roommates has already visited and two more are coming this summer.”
