STUDY IN LANCASTER!
If you are looking for a study abroad experience that truly immerses you in the life of a British university student, this is the program for you! As a UW-Eau
Claire student at Lancaster University, you will take classes from British professors, with British classmates. You will live in on-campus housing with British roommates. When the semester ends, you will be able to say that you truly experienced life in another culture.
THE LOCATION
Lancaster (pop.50,000) lies on the west coast of England. The city has a rich cultural history, dating back to Roman occupation in the first century. There is a striking mix of old and new architectural styles throughout the city, framed by the mountains of the Lake District to the north. Lancaster University is on the southern edge of Lancaster. A short walk leads to open countryside, and charming villages are easily reached by bicycle.
THE UNIVERSITY
As a study abroad student at Lancaster University, you are joining a tradition that began in 1964. The University offers courses in subject areas from business to social sciences to humanities. Classes at Lancaster include lectures, but more time is spent in small group tutorials. The Lancaster campus is similar in size to UW-Eau Claire. On-campus services include banks, news agents, a drugstore, a hair salon, a British Rail Office, a travel agency, and a post office.
HOUSING & MEALS
The University offers on-campus housing, called "colleges", to study abroad students. In each college there is a mix of British undergraduates and international students and all colleges have wheelchair access. Most rooms are singles with sinks; all are grouped around a communal lounge and kitchen area.
There is no meal plan at Lancaster. You can buy meals at the university cafes or cafeterias or cook at home with roommates and friends. Depending on where you live, you may share your kitchen with 5-25 other students (though sharing with 25 is rare). Most kitchens include a fridge with separate freezer, stove, microwave, and electric kettle.
