The Program

STUDY IN CHINA!
Whether it is the adventure of exploring one of the world's oldest civilizations or the appeal of experiencing first-hand the world's fastest growing economy, China has something for everyone.

THE LOCATION
Guangzhou (formerly Canton) is the southernmost large city in China, just north of Hong Kong. The official language is Pu-tong-hua (Mandarin). The local dialect is Cantonese, the same as that in Hong Kong. As Guangzhou was one of the first cities opened to the outside world, it is more modern than many Chinese cities. Guangdong province, where Guangzhou is located, is where most of Chinese's economic reforms are being piloted. It's a great place to get a first-hand view of the major changes currently underway as the Communist political system strives to accommodate a market economy.

THE UNIVERSITY
Founded in 1906, Jinan University is a comprehensive institution, composed of seven colleges: Liberal Arts, Science & Technology, Economics, Medicine, Chinese Language and Culture, China Travel, and Education. Its primary mission is to serve overseas Chinese students, students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and students of Chinese ancestry. Four thousand of its approximately 12,000 students are from those backgrounds.

The main campus of Jinan University is both lovely and self-contained. With a bank, bakery, bookstore, post office, supermarket, photo shop, laundromat, medical facilities, restaurants and sports facilities, the campus has the feel of a small town within the city. You can also get involved in a variety of student activities.

HOUSING & MEALS
In most cases, you will live in an air-conditioned student dormitory on the main campus of Jinan University, in a double room, with a Chinese roommate. The other housing option is a dormitory at the branch campus of the College of Chinese Language and Culture.

Excellence. Our Measure. Our Motto. Our Goal.
