An Interview with Christie M.
Christie M., a Spanish for Business major, chose to study Spanish in Costa Rica.  Says Christie, “If you want to learn Spanish and you love adventures, Costa Rica is perfect for you.”

During the week Christie studied and spent time with her host family.  She came home for lunch with her host mom, then had dinner with the whole family.  In the evenings, she would run errands with her host family, do homework, or go out with friends.

On the weekends, Christie got to see more of beautiful Costa Rica.  “The weekend fieldtrips that you take through the program are so exciting.  We went to Manuel Antonio National Park, Puerto Viejo, Santa Rosa National Park, Bagaces, and to Nicaragua.  I also traveled on my own to several beaches and two volcanoes.”  One of Christie’s favorite moments abroad was seeing an active volcano erupting at night and watching the lava flow down the side.

When asked how studying abroad impacted her life Christie said, “It made me more open to trying new things and being in new situations.”  At first Christie had a hard time because of the language barrier.  But then she decided to just go with it.   “I needed be open to what I was doing and not be afraid to be a little uncomfortable or confused.”
