RE: FREE Continuing Education Coursework in TESOL!!!

Three studentsThe University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) Program has recently been awarded a Federal Title III Grant that will allow teachers who currently hold instructional positions in the Eau Claire Area School District to become trained and to receive a TESOL add-on license. This grant program will allow twenty in-service teachers to obtain a TESOL add-on license, which consist of 32 credit hours of university-level coursework. Grant funding covers all TESOL add-on license expenses for tuition, university fees, and book costs for the duration of the program.

  2. Engl 125 - English Grammar and Usage (3 credits)
  3. Engl 221 - The English Language (3 credits)
  4. Cdis 262 - Phonetics: Theory and Application (2 credits)
  5. CJ 301/501 - Intercultural Communications (3 credits)
  6. Psyc 378/578 - The Psychology of Language (3 credits)
  7. Flg 378/778 - Second Language Acquisition (3 credits)
  8. CI 405/605 - TESOL Methods (3 credits)
  9. CI 408/608 - Content-based ESL Methods (3 credits)
  10. Flg 400/600 - Assessment of English Language Learners (2 credits)

One studentTeachers will be scheduled to take the 32-credits of coursework part-time over a two year period. The first cohort will begin in Spring 2003; the second in Fall 2003. We are currently recruiting 10 teachers to begin taking coursework in the grant-funded TESOL program in the spring of 2003. Teachers pursuing their add-on license will learn strategies, techniques, and methods to make their classroom content comprehensible to English Language Learners in their classrooms.
