The Department of Curriculum and Instruction prepares undergraduate and graduate students for elementary, middle level, and high school classrooms through several programs. Through a series of courses and experiences emphasizing reflection and decision-making in teaching, students develop knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for effective teaching.

Working with the Continuing Education Department, C&I strives to provide ongoing education opportunities to educators and other professionals.

Students also acquire skills in:

1. planning and using various teaching methods and resources,
2. creating and maintaining a positive learning environment, and
3. evaluating learning and instruction.

At the completion of the program, students are ready to assume responsibility for classroom teaching and are prepared to continue developing as a professional.
