The Chippewa Log & Boom Company (C.L. & B.) was a logging business located in Chippewa Falls. It was built in 1836 by a Frenchman, Jean Brunet. Today, Brunet is known as the trailblazer of industry in Chippewa Falls. The company’s history is intertwined with what began as a small, undeveloped area and became in the 1880’s, one of the fastest growing cities in the country. Today, Chippewa Falls is an established city with a rich history of manufacturing. This all began with the C. L. & B. The tale of the Chippewa Lumber & Boom Company leads us on a fascinating journey in the lumber business and provides us with insights on key societal transitions in both Chippewa Falls and the Untied States. This exhibit provides a history of C.L. & B., its early history and its takeover by the most successful lumberman in U.S. History, Frederick Weyerhaeuser, and the impact his company had on the city of Chippewa Falls. |
