The Leinenkugel story begins in Prussia, Germany where in the early part of the nineteenth century Mathias was schooled in the art of crafting beer. By the 1840’s Mathias had prospered and became a Brew Master. In 1845, Mathias made the decision to uproot his family and make the long voyage from Germany to Sauk City, Wisconsin. Here he established a brewery, and began the long history of Leinenkugel brewing in Wisconsin.
