How Jumpstart Works

Together, with you and your child's school, we focus on three areas:

School Success.

Jumpstart helps young children get ready for school by working with them on the School Success Outcomes.

Family Involvement.

Families are the first and most important teachers of their children. Together, with your Corps member, you can help prepare your child school.

Future Teachers.

Jumpstart Corps members are trained to work one–to–one with your children and their families, focusing on the skills children need for success.

How Jumpstart Will Work with Your Child

At Jumpstart we believe that children learn best by doing, a process called active learning. Young children love to explore things, try out new ideas, and use all their senses to make discoveries.

Jumpstart looks at each child as an individual, unique in terms of age, family, and community experiences. We work with children's interests, abilities, and needs to help them develop skills they will use throughout their lives.

At Jumpstart, children have the opportunity to do many things:

  • Learn about readking, writing, communicating, and working well with other children and adults.
  • Read age–appropriate books with adults and other children.
  • Build their vocabulary through having conversations and seeingn words around the room.
  • Participate in "hands–on" activities, such as using scissors, playing with puzzles, squishing playdough, and painting.
  • Use a variety of materials, such as markers, paper, blue, and staples, to write, draw, and create.
  • Learn how to solve problems and be aware of others' feelings.
Excellence. Our Measure. Our Motto. Our Goal.
