Alums: Please let us know what you are up to and how you are doing. Send a letter or an e-mail (pictures are great!) to one of your old professors, your advisor, your research mentor, or even the Chair (phillija@uwec.edu). We really enjoy hearing from you!

Derek and Theresa (Hopp) Fox reside in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. Professionally, Theresa is a clinical pharmacist at Grand Itasca, the new hospital/clinic facility in Grand Rapids. Derek is a full-time chemistry faculty member at Itasca Community College. Derek is collaborating with the MPCA and John Downing at Iowa State in assessing the water quality for hundreds of Itasca County’s one thousand lakes. Derek is also working on developing a two-transfer program in water quality/environmental science that will transfer to any of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities four campuses. They have just purchased their new home and hobby farm on 30 acres, just minutes from Grand Rapids. The couple is looking forward to a strong growing season this coming summer, and developing their “farm” with horses, highland cattle, sheep, and chickens.

Form Mandi Seibles (May 05): I recieved a new job with Environmental Chemistry Consulting Services in July. This job is wonderful I test for nitrate and ammonia concentrations in soil and water samples. The neat thing about this job is that it is a mobile lab. I am hopefully going to Boston soon to test for pesticides in a river. I knew that I eventually wanted to go back to school, so this semester I have been taking a graduate course called water chemistry at UW-Madison. This helped me make the decision to go back to school to get my masters in environmental engineering focusing on water treatment. And next semester I will be taking two undergraduate engineering course to fulfill some pre-reqs. that I need.

Clinton Cook (08) is a new graduate student in the Chemical and Biochemical Engineering Department at the University of Iowa
