Honor in Gold

Decoration of Honor in Gold

Ada Smalley Bors — creator of the Annual Viennese Ball and the program’s coordinator through its silver anniversary — was honored October 28, 1995, with a Decoration of Honor in Gold for Services to the Republic of Austria. Dr. Gerald Kriechbaum, Austrian Consul General – Chicago, presented the award for bringing Austrian tradition and culture to the United States through the presentation of the Annual Viennese Ball, and building bridges of understanding between our two countries.

In receiving the honor, Ada Bors made this statement:

I accept this Decoration of Honor in Gold …

On behalf of the hundreds of committee members, especially those who are volunteers, university staff and students
who come together to present the Annual Viennese Ball;

On behalf of the thousands of musicians, comprising students, faculty and area musicians, who prepare and perform
music at our Viennese Ball; and

On behalf of the many thousands of patrons who have attended our Viennese Ball, which has enabled us to provide significant monies for music scholarships and international
study awards.

Honor in Gold

The Decoration of Honor in Gold was presented at the Austrian National Day Celebration at the Palmer House in Chicago. The Singing Statesmen performed at the special invitation of the Consul General.
