Home > Programs > Personal Enrichment > An Introduction to Pastels
Do you have some basic drawing and composition skills, but would like to experiment with a new artistic medium? This class is for you! Soft pastel is frequently described as the medium that uses a creative blend of drawing and painting. Working with pastels can produce striking and vibrant works, or muted and impressionistic pieces. Discover the pleasures and challenges of working with this colorful, painterly medium. You’ll work to acquire techniques such as blending, cross-hatching and layering, and practice them in projects including still life, portraits and landscapes. This is a structured beginner class in which the instructor will conduct demos, provide lecture at the beginning of class and then allow time for students to complete an exercise with the instructor’s guidance in a supportive and relaxed environment.
