An Introduction to Acrylic Painting
Here is your opportunity to pick up a brush and try your hand at painting! You’ve never painted before? No problem—this course has been designed with the true beginner in mind. Using acrylic paints, you will explore the heart and soul of painting: color, form, expression, pictorial space and content. You will have the unique opportunity to paint from whatever inspires you personally—photographs, memories, personal observations and/or themes particular to your own imagination. Additionally, you will concentrate on your individual creative development and enhance your technical skills with the careful guidance of a caring instructor. Don’t miss this great opportunity to be introduced to acrylic painting from the ground up. The next piece of art you hang on your living room wall just might be your own!

Jill Olm: Connecting Campus and Community
Jill Olm, Assistant Professor of Painting and Drawing at UW- Eau Claire, received her MFA degree in painting from Syracuse University. Jill explores a wide range of techniques in her paintings, drawings, videos, and site-specific works. In addition to maintaining a full time teaching position, Jill has successfully exhibited her art at the national level--most recently at the University Art Gallery in Terre Haute, Indiana, the Long Beach Foundation of the Arts in Loveladies, New Jersey, the 621 Gallery in Tallahassee, Florida and solo exhibitions at Company Gallery in Syracuse, NY, and Riverviews Art Space in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Supply List
Please do not purchase art supplies more than two weeks prior to the start of class. Art supplies should range from $30 to $50 depending on where you purchase them. Supplies are available at local art and craft stores or online art supply websites.
An Introduction to Acrylic Painting: Art Supplies
- Acrylic paint: Titanium White (at least 90ml)
- Acrylic paint: Cadmium Yellow Medium (at least 90ml)
- Acrylic paint: Ultramarine Blue (at least 90ml)
- Acrylic paint: Cadmium Red Medium (at least 90ml)
- Acrylic paint: Burnt Umber or Burnt Sienna (at least 90ml)
- Acrylic paint: Mars Black (at least 90ml)
- Paint Brushes: a variety of shapes/sizes.
Recommended minimum: ½” Flat and #6 Round - Three pre-stretched canvases or canvas boards (9”x12” or larger)
- Can, cup, or plastic container for water
- Palette (inexpensive plastic)
- Pencils and sketching paper

Transfers/Cancellations:
Substitutes are welcome and may register in your absence. Refunds for cancellations will be in full less a $25 fee. No refunds will be issued for cancellations received within 5 days of the program. Just call the Continuing Education Office (715-836-3636/toll free 866-893-2423) and we’ll take care of everything.
