A
liberal arts-liberal sciences education provides students with opportunities
to develop intellectual skills including analysis, synthesis, critical
thinking, and application; to strengthen communication skills and abilities;
to enhance their aesthetic appreciation and humanistic understanding; and
to develop broad and deep perspective that contributes to their functioning
as educated citizens who engage in life-long learning. These are the core
values of academic programs in the College of Arts and Sciences at UW-Eau
Claire, along with helping students develop discipline-specific knowledge
and skills. The college comprises eighteen academic departments in the arts,
humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences, and two interdisciplinary
programs. We provide coursework and other high-quality educational experiences
for students majoring in programs based in the college; extensive general
education coursework; and supporting courses for academic programs in the
other colleges at UWEC. The college offers a number of graduate programs;
faculty and students in the arts and sciences participate fully in UWEC’s excellent international
learning opportunities.
Teaching and learning occurs in traditional classrooms, electronic classrooms, laboratories and studios, in the field, and other settings. UWEC is the designated Center of Excellence for Faculty and Undergraduate Student Research Collaboration within the UW System, and we are proud of the excellent opportunities we provide within the arts and sciences for students to engage in independent or collaborative research. This is a true “point of pride” of our university. Service activities provide additional learning opportunities as well as contributing to the welfare of the broader community in which we live and work. We have a vibrant, talented faculty who are committed to the learning and success of students. Our faculty also engage in research, scholarship, and creative activities that advance their disciplines, provide unique learning opportunities for students, and serve the information needs of the state and region. We are committed to creating an academic environment that provides educational opportunities for all, and that enhances knowledge about and respect for human diversity.I encourage you to explore opportunities in the College of Arts and Sciences by browsing the links to our departments and programs.
