Discovering Opportunities in Federal Government

The federal government employs almost two million civilian workers, or about 1.3 percent of the nation’s workforce. A large array of federal agencies and 15 cabinet departments exist, including the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Education, Health and Human Services, and the Department of Transportation. Federal employees administer services that insure public safety, health, and welfare.

The federal government offers career opportunities with competitive pay, job security, and great benefits. Since these jobs come from a variety of backgrounds, graduates with any major can be successful. Some examples include: accountants, botanists, dietitians, foresters, computer programmers, engineers, police officers, human resource management personnel, and foreign affairs specialists.
