Why do an internship? Let UW-Eau Claire interns explain:

This internship was invaluable in learning real-life skills related to graphic design, marketing, working with a client, etc. I was given many responsibilities as well as a lot of creative freedom which was good to encourage exploration. I felt like my work was needed and appreciated and I learned a lot.
I love the hands on and experience they offered through a variety of areas in the department
I learned a lot about the marketing and sales world. The position allowed me to see what I like and dislike about marketing as well as a sales position.
Getting hands on experience in my field is a very good way to learn new practices and get a feel for the type of business I will join after school.
I felt like I used the skills I learned at uwec. I felt like my internship prepared me for getting a job.
Great ability to view both tax and audit fields of accounting. So many aspects of the internship prepare you for the real-world, offering aspects that are simply unobtainable in the classroom. Top-notch experience, would intern again!

Although unpaid, this internship gave me incredible opportunities to learn and have first-hand experiences in public relations. The staff was great and living in New York City was a dream coming true.

I love my internship! It's been a great experience and amazing opportunity! The things I have learned and experiences I've had are ones that I could not of received in a classroom setting. I had a great experience learning about investigations and law enforcement on a state level. It affirmed my interest in law enforcement as a career.
I love working with the different local radio stations. The DJs are like celebrities with very loyal listeners. Working the events with them is a blast and I learned a lot about different social media.
This internship is the best thing I have done in my 4 years at UWEC. In classes, they try to tell you what the "real world" is like out there, but you truly have no idea until you are actually in it. I feel so much more prepared and confident in not only my designing abilities, but also in my ability to sustain a career in Graphic Design. I would (and do) recommend to anyone to do an internship in your field of study; it helps immensely!
It makes the concepts I'm learning in class make a lot more sense and thus I can learn new ones better after having a visual of how they are applied and used.
I have really enjoyed working in a non profit. It's been a great learning experience for me.
The hands on medical experience was second to none. The experience allowed me to answer interview questions and sharpened my medical knowledge. The overall experience contributed greatly to my acceptance to a graduate level Physician Assistant program.
I think it is a great learning experience that I could not have learned from a class.
Very challenging and forces you to become familiar with the technology in a very short period of time, but very rewarding. Gives a lot of great hands on experience in video production and editing that the classroom does not provide.
I gained good experience in doing the work, both with the software and handling of artifacts as well as hopefully helping me to land a Public History job after graduation.
I think it has been an extremely beneficial experience and I would recommend internships in general, and LTS in particular, to any English major.
I loved working as an intern with Blugold Beginnings. I had worked with them previously as a Site Coordinator and really enjoyed the experience. The staff is so helpful, and they truly enjoy what they do. This has helped me achieve the most rewarding experience a person can have, which is helping others.
It was one of the best experiences I've had at UWEC.
I learned a lot about writing for radio and I have a better understanding radio production. I feel that my broadcast-style and interviewing improved a lot.

I gained a lot of experience that related to my major. It was in Orlando and it's a big city so there's a lot to cover in terms of journalism work. Having no personal transportation is a struggle but in general, I liked the internship a lot.

It was a fantastic and challenging experience that prepared me well for my current position. I had daily duties managing inventory and projects to improve the overall flow in the area as well as experiencing the obscelence of an entire product line. A truly memorable experience.

The National Association of Colleges and Employers surveys employers every year about jobs and internships. In the 2012 survey, almost 75% of the employers indicated they prefer candidates with relevant work experience. More than half of the respondents prefer that it comes from an internship.

An internship gives you the experience employers want and can help you decide if your current career choice is a good one for you.
