Shift Descriptions:
Cook shifts: we cook unused dining hall food into individual meals as well as large congregate meal dishes. This shift takes place at an industrial kitchen in one of the main dining halls at Eau Claire and is a great opportunity to get to know other volunteers and to be in a social environment. These shifts generally last around 2 hours.
Delivery Shifts: we deliver the meals prepared at the cooking shift to our clients around Evanston. This requires meeting at the kitchen to pick up the meals and then leaving in groups of 2-4 people in cars and vans to drop of the meals around Evanston. It is not required that you have a car to participate in this shift but we are always looking for drivers who can donate their time and car space to help. We have multiple delivery routes and they last between 45 minutes – 90 minutes (depending on how many stops).
Package shifts: individual volunteers travel around the package unused food that would otherwise be thrown away. This shift should only take around 45 minutes – 75 minutes. Food rescue shifts times are more flexible than the other shift times, so if you are able to spare some time during business work hours, then this is a good shift for you.
Late night/Afternoon Pick up:where you need access to a car and will go to locations around Eau Claire to pick up unused food to bring back to the Campus Kitchen head quarters. Requires about 1 hour of your time.
